Essay and Report

 

The ReSAKSS challenge is an Africa-wide – diaspora included – competition targeting researchers, students, creative designers, developers and analysts, and anyone passionate about data. The competition will enable you to experiment, discover new tools, and create a community of practice working data in the most innovative way.

To stimulate innovative use of data on African economies and create knowledge tools that contribute to addressing matters of strategic importance to Africa, ReSAKSS Data Challenge participants are encouraged to take part in the Essay or Report category.

Description

For this Essay or Report category, participants are asked to use their imagination to write engaging pieces. More precisely, participants are required to showcase their creativity and analytical skills using data and other resources on the ReSAKSS, eAtlas, and AAgWa websites to develop a written piece or project that addresses a development challenge faced by Africa.

Rules

→Explore the data (ReSAKSSeAtlas, and AAgWa)

→ Choose the data you need*

→ Create an Essay or Report of your choice that addresses a development challenge for Africa

→ Submit your work and methodology before the end of the contest deadline.

*ReSAKSS data has to be used but can be combined with other data. Each candidate will be asked to list all data used and to provide a description of his/her project in a methodology document to be submitted alongside his/her project.

Evaluation

The applications in this Essay or Report  category will be evaluated following the following criteria:

  • Relevance—Did the entry apply to the theme of addressing a community problem?
  • Clarity—Are the candidates’ arguments clear and concise?
  • Documentation—How did the resources used help in delivering a meaningful message?
  • An Essay or Report is limited to a maximum of 2,500 words.

Timeline

The Essay and report category will open on August 24, 2023, and will close on October 29, 2023. Applications will be made through this dedicated ReSAKSS Challenge website.

Prize

The most innovative essays and reports will be awarded during the 2023 ReSAKSS Conference.

Gold prize: $ 1500 USD

Silver prize: $ 1000 USD

Bronze prize: $ 500 USD
